HAIR TRENDS- 🌻/🌞 '18
With the summer season fast approaching (at least here in QLD), we thought it would be best to summarise some of this season’s expected #hair #trends! Whether these trends strike you as a big #YAY or a huge #NAY, sit back, grab a cuppa and be ready to see your local #hipsters rocking these trends this #Spring/#Summer.
There’s no hiding that over the past few years the 90s early 00s revival has been going strong!! Good news is, it’s definitely here to stay… at least for this season anyway! Joining scrunchies in the 90s hair accessory trend, a variety of headbands and hairclips have made their way onto catwalks for our spring/summer shows. We all know the classic 90s staple accordion headband (you know the one made from a thin wobbly wire), well #SURPRISE they’re back. During Paris Fashion Week ’18 (#PFW), Kendall Jenner rocked one of these baddies, and she made it look amazing???? Okay #wow.
Not to mention the bulky clips, showcased by #Tibi, or the leopard print ‘banana clip’ seen on Bella Hadid. These simple hair accessories not only give us crazy 90s vibes but are an easy way to add a special touch to your lazy summer up-do!
While doing my research into this season’s trends, I saw a lot of inspiration also being drawn from the 1960s. To put it simply, more crazy headbands and short bangs- #amazing. Guido Palau, a leading hair stylist, created some marvellous 60s esc looks during Fashion Week ’18.
“We put extreme headband on all the girls. To me it felt futuristic, but also like a religious icon”, Palau explained while describing his 2018 look for Prada. Very short bangs and giant headbands… okay, got it. Drawing inspiration from 60s icon Edie Sedgwick (it-girl in the Warhol crowd), Palau’s look for Versace encompassed short, bleached hair; juxtaposing Edie’s “punkiness” with an element of “heritage”. Though some of these looks may be #extra #af , I’m sure we will be seeing these trends showcased in a more ‘wearable’ way throughout this season.
Baby Hair Up-Do
Continuing on with our practical summer hairstyles, Fendi showcased a “chic take on baby hair” as described by Vogue, for their Spring/Summer collection. Hair was pulled into a tight top knot, with face-framing strands pulled out and curled. “These aren’t big tendrils of hair just hanging there... they’re doll-like, but soft and brushed out for a youthful effect” (Mcknight stylist for Fendi’s 2018 show). Once again hitting us with those #heritage #vibes, Mcknight drew inspiration from Victorian up-dos, further advancing the look through referencing the 1970s-era. Not only is this look universally flattering, it may also be the solution for taming those pesky baby strands. #embracethebabyhair2018 … now that’s a cause worth fighting for.
